About USCCB

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is an assembly of the hierarchy of the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands who jointly exercise certain pastoral functions on behalf of the Christian faithful of the United States.

The Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development (JPHD) aids the Catholic bishops of the United States in carrying out the mission of Christ by engaging Catholics in prayer, reflection and action to protect the lives and dignity of members of the human family at home and around the world. JPHD carries out this task through education about the Church’s social mission and teaching, application of Church teaching to public policy, advocacy for the poor and vulnerable, and empowerment of low-income people and communities to overcome poverty.
