Prayer to Confront Global Poverty

Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Spirit, you are the origin of all gifts. Make us grateful stewards of your many blessings.

Father, Creator of Abundance,
Grant us generosity in sharing our gifts and resources with our brothers and sisters around the world.

Jesus, Prince of Peace,
Make us advocates of the peace that strengthens justice and the justice that sustains peace.

Spirit of Justice,
May the love and equality you share with the Father and the Son inspire us to support just  policies that lift up poor persons.

Father, Maker of the World,
Make us responsible stewards of the earth’s riches and respectful of local peoples from whose lands resources are extracted .

Jesus, Lord who Lightens Burdens,
May we look with mercy on nations burdened by poverty and commit ourselves to their relief.

Holy Spirit, Author of Life,
Inspire us to protect the gift of creation, and to assist those in poverty, who suffer the most from environmental harm.

Blessed Trinity, Communion of Love,
Help us to love our global neighbors and those displaced from their homes by  reducing poverty in other countries.

Father, through your Son and by the power of the Holy Spirit,
Help us to recognize your face in all those affected by global poverty and fill us with the love and fortitude we need to confront its causes.

Father, we ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for the Hungry (A Mealtime Prayer)

Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts:
The gift of food, for us and for others;
Of generosity, that when we have plenty
None should go hungry the whole world over;
The gift of hearts that grow in humility and compassion
For each of your children who suffers misfortune;
The gift of your love that extends our reach,
And would not deny your gifts to another.
Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Peace

Support Peace for Your Brothers and Sisters in Sudan

Lord Jesus, who said to us:
“I leave you peace. My peace I give you”:

Look upon our Sudanese sisters and brothers,
as they continue the struggle for peace.
Give them the wisdom they need to choose
their future where they will know your true peace.
You call us out of slavery, oppression, and persecution
So that we may have life in abundance
Grant us peace with one another
Give peace among ethnic groups
Help us to work together for the good of all.
We ask this in your name, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us.
Saint Josephine Bakhita, pray for us.
Saint Daniel Comboni, pray for us.
All Holy men and women of God, pray for us.

For Natural Resources

For those who profit from the treasures of the earth, that investors, corporations and governments may exercise responsible stewardship of natural resources and respect for local communities.

For Confronting Global Poverty

For the Church, that we may renew our commitment to Jesus’ mission to “bring glad tidings to the poor… proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free.”

For the leaders of our nation, that their decisions may reflect respect for the life and dignity of every human being and manifest it in their concern for the poorest and most vulnerable members of society.

For those who are suffering from poverty and hunger, that they might be helped through our generosity and experience hope through our commitment to practicing charity and building a world of great justice and peace.

For members of this parish community, that we might reflect on Christ’s message of love for our neighbor and recommit ourselves to working to end poverty and hunger in our world.

For Peace

For our world leaders, that they may support peacekeeping efforts everywhere and that they may work to address conflicts before they become violent.

For Peace in Sudan

Use this prayer individually or in groups to bring Our Lord your intentions for peace in Sudan and South Sudan:

For the church, that our leaders together with the bishops of Sudan and South Sudan continue to be the bearers of the Good News and serve as examples of the peacemakers we are called to be, we pray to the Lord.
Response: Prince of Peace, hear our prayer

For all government and political leaders, that they may open their minds and hearts to God’s guidance in their decisions and their actions to ensure peace in all lands, we pray to the Lord.
Response: Prince of Peace, hear our prayer

For community leaders and the media, that they understand the importance of their role among all the people of Sudan and South Sudan, and do what they can to ensure fairness, justice and peace, we pray to the Lord.
Response: Prince of Peace, hear our prayer

For those of us gathered here, that God’s grace will help us to be bearers of peace in our own communities as we walk with our sisters and brothers in Sudan and South Sudan, so that we all will be called peacemakers and children of God, we pray to the Lord.
Response: Prince of Peace, hear our prayer

For Poverty-Focused International Assistance

For our nation, that generosity and justice may guide our policies and inspire us to share our wealth in ways that promote the dignity and development of all God’s children in every land.
